Andrea goddamn Collins. She had a real mouth on her. Shirtless, Kyle knelt on the roof of the main house, working on re-shingling the roof. It was a rough job and he'd drawn straws with the boys for it, only to find himself with the loosing hand. He could feel his neck beginning to burn beneath the midday sun.

But his temper burned hotter.

It was clear that the spoiled, selfish girl who'd walked out on her parents had learned nothing. They way she'd approached Pride...Kyle shook his head, mouth tight. She'd once loved that horse, or so he'd heard. That she'd been so callous as to spook it into nearly trampling her...ridiculous. She thought that just because her last name was Collins that she knew best?

He had helped Hugh make the ranch what it now was. This girl knew nothing. One only had to look at the ridiculous outfit she'd worn to see how green she was. A lacy little top, tights and boots that looked like they'd cost a fortune. The attire had no place on a farm.

However, he had to admit that his throat had dried and his pants had tightened at the sight of her cleavage in that top. While the woman might be thin from whatever problem was plaguing her, she still had a body on her. She needed a few good plates of Shirley's cooking, and he was sure luscious curves would be revealed. He'd never liked his women too skinny – give him an athletic woman with strong thighs over a twig any day...

Quickly, he shook himself. It didn't matter. He had touched Andrea once – just to put her in her place - and that had been quite enough. Her skin had been soft and she'd smelled of roses. She'd probably put perfume on just to take a tour of her own ranch! The thought was laughable.

The woman herself, however, was not.

She walked around the grounds stiff as a board, jumping at anyone and everything that interacted with her. She appeared to be on a razors edge, and as bad as he knew the idea was, he couldn't help but wonder if she'd melt if he took her in his arms and kissed the stress away. The woman looked as if she hadn't gotten laid in half an age.

But, he had to remind himself, that wasn't his concern.

He was here to protect the ranch – to protect Hugh and Shirley. They, too, had been on edge since their daughter had arrived. He frowned as he thought of what she might have said to them – harsh words or criticisms? Maybe. After all, she looked as if she had made her money. She probably thought she ran the world.

A little time here would bring her back down to earth. If they were lucky, she might even turn tail and scamper off again, defeated by the place she thought would save her.

As soon as the thought crossed his mind, Kyle frowned deeply. That wasn't fair of him, and he knew it wasn't.
